Rose Otto, Rose Attar, Rose essential oil

Rose essential oil is one of the most expensive essential oils because of its powerful skin care properties and pleasant aroma. It is very popular among many people. Rose essential oil is extracted by traditional steam distillation method. The process is complicated and delicate. It takes up to 6-8 tons of rose petals to obtain only about 1 liter of essential oil, that is, nearly 150 roses are needed to make one drop of essential oil. This means that a lot of manpower and logistics work are required to complete a series of procedures, which increases the rarity and value of rose essential oil. The harvest and quality of roses depend on many uncertain factors. If the harvest or quality is very poor, more roses may be needed to extract the same amount of essential oil, resulting in a further increase in price. Although rose essential oil is expensive, its healing and restorative functions are so powerful that one drop can play a big role. The properties and fragrance of rose essential oil can be used to make different natural beauty products such as massage oil, cleanser, moisturizer, soap, perfume, lotion, etc. It is the preferred essential oil for adding to body care products all over the world.

Similar products on the market

Since rose essential oil is so expensive, most of the "rose oil" sold on the market is not real rose essential oil, but rose absolute made by solvent extraction, or mixed and diluted with other base oils. The inferior ones are not even from roses but chemical synthetic products. The main ingredients of mixed rose essential oil are citronellol and geraniol.

Some other natural plant essential oils that seem to be related to roses, the most common ones are Rose Geranium, Rosewood, Palmarosa, Rosemary or Gaiac, etc., which are somewhat different from rose petals, and of course the nutritional value is also completely different. The rose essential oils labeled Rose Otto/Rose Attar/Rose essential oil are more credible.

Main Ingredients

Rose essential oil contains a variety of useful ingredients, including citronellol, geraniol, nerol, linalool, and eugenol, which make rose essential oil produce strong antioxidant, antibacterial, pore-tightening, anti-depressant and anti-inflammatory properties. Among them, high concentrations of citronellol are mainly used in aromatherapy to reduce fever, reduce inflammation, regulate the body, treat stomach diseases and relieve menstrual discomfort. Geraniol, which also has a high content, effectively reduces pain, anti-inflammatory and enhances antiseptic ability.

Appearance

Real rose essential oil is very clear, a light yellow transparent liquid, feels light, is lighter and thinner than rose pure oil, and its fragrance is not as strong as rose pure oil, but the concentration is still quite concentrated, exuding a gentle and subtle fragrance that can last for a long time, making it very suitable for use as perfume. There is no chance of leaving solvent residues like rose pure oil, making it the preferred essential oil for aromatherapy.

feature

The top-grade rose essential oil has a unique feature that proves it is genuine rose essential oil. When the rose essential oil is at a relatively cold temperature of about 21 degrees Celsius or below, the plant wax in the essential oil will automatically condense and turn the essential oil into a solid and stop dripping. If this happens, don't think that the essential oil has gone bad. It means that the essential oil is high-quality, pure and natural, and no chemicals have been injected. There is no need for a complicated process to restore the liquid state. Just wrap your hands around the essential oil bottle and the hand temperature will restore the essential oil to its normal state, or immerse the bottle in warm water for a while. The characteristics of the essential oil will not change.

However, this phenomenon does not occur in all rose absolutes made by solvent extraction, because the wax on the petals will be washed away by the hexane solvent during the distillation process.

To distinguish the quality of rose essential oil more carefully, experts will use the condensation temperature for testing: the top-grade, highest-quality rose essential oil will condense at 20-21 degrees Celsius, the second-grade at 18-19 degrees Celsius, and the ordinary quality is below 17 degrees Celsius. Although there are different condensation temperatures, rose essential oil extracted by traditional steam distillation must also be of high quality.

Cohobation

The top-grade rose essential oil comes from the first extraction by traditional steam distillation. However, because rose essential oil is very precious and rare, the rose water obtained from the first distillation is often re-distilled once or multiple times by unscrupulous producers to release as much rose essential oil as possible with higher profits. This practice is called secondary distillation/reflux distillation (Cohobation), and the essential oil obtained is called recovered oil or rose water oil. Finally, the rose essential oil from the first distillation and the recovered oil are mixed to produce secondary rose essential oil.

The recycled oil not only destroys the natural nutrients of roses due to multiple distillations, but also removes the water-soluble compounds that are the main cause of rose fragrance. Usually, the secondary rose essential oil is composed of about 75% recycled oil and only about 25% of the first distillation essential oil. It has less nutritional value but is also very expensive. The first distillation produces the most precious rose essential oil and pure water.

Precautions for use

Rose essential oil is non-irritating and non-sensitive. It is absolutely safe for aromatherapy or external use except that it must not be taken orally. However, due to the high concentration of essential oils, applying them directly to the skin may cause harm. It is recommended to dilute the essential oils, pure oils, or other concentrated essences before applying them to the skin. It is also recommended to perform a skin allergy test first to ensure that the skin can adapt.

Children, pregnant women, people with epilepsy, liver damage, cancer or any other medical problems must consult a certified aromatherapist or medical professional before use.
