World Cultural Heritage Nut Grove (Forrest Gump Grove)

In the early days, the locals did not care for the nut trees in Morocco. They even cut down the nut trees to increase land cultivation, resulting in a large reduction in the number of precious nut trees. In 1998, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially named the nut tree area in Essaouira and Agadir in southwestern Morocco as the 'Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve' and included it in the World Heritage List to ensure that the world's unique nut trees can continue to survive.

The entire protected area covers about 2.5 million hectares, which is about the size of 135,000 Victoria Parks. The first harvest of nut trees, which are 7-10 meters tall, takes about 40-60 years, and they can grow for 150-400 years.

One of the oldest tree species in the world

Morocco

The nut tree, which has a history of more than 80 million years, is one of the oldest tree species in the world. In addition to being used to extract nut oil, it can also reduce the impact of dust storms and soil erosion on the environment in this harsh environment of drought and high temperature.

The nut tree is also called the 'tree of life' by the local Berbers, because the emergence of the nut tree has brought higher income to the local people and thus a better life, and the nut tree leaves and nuts also provide valuable food for local animals such as goats and camels.

Although nut trees are important assets in the area, local people never change the influence of nature on nut trees in order to increase or increase the harvest, and let nature dominate everything. Because local people firmly believe that nature has given them nut trees and provided them with a better living environment, which is already a great gift, and this is also the main reason why we can enjoy pure natural organic nut oil.

Harvesting the Nut Tree (Argan Tree)

Each nut rich in nutrients grows on a thorny nut tree. July to August every year is the nut harvest season. With good weather and healthy nut trees, each tree can provide about 120-180kg of fruit, but only 3-5L of nut oil can be extracted. This is why nut oil is called Liquid Gold, which is rare and precious.

Moroccans are well aware that the nutritional and practical value of olives is far inferior to that of nuts, and that Moroccan nuts are a unique variety in the world. Although the annual harvest of nuts is limited, most producers would rather choose to extract limited nut oil. Only a small number of producers will extract olive oil, resulting in Moroccan olive oil accounting for only about 4.5% of the global production.
